premier custom-built, inc. was born out of a passion for the making of fine cabinetry. With a small group of experienced craftsmen, Marlin Horst started the company in 1991 after spending most of his career in the cabinet industry in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where some of the world’s finest cabinetry is built. They believed that the company’s success depended on their commitment to live their faith by excelling in everyday work, returning a measure of the company’s fruits to their families, local community and in some way, the larger world. They set their sights high and worked hard, with word of mouth as their only means of marketing. Through the years the company thrived, quietly attracting excellent craftsmen and a solid clientele while developing an outstanding product.
Over the years, the Horst family has developed other successful companies that have shared in and contributed to Premier’s success. Quilt Expressions, founded by C. Jean Horst in 1986, designs and manufactures beautiful handcrafted Lancaster County quilts. More recently, inspired by his love of aviation, Marlin acquired the Smoketown Airport and formed Horst Aviation, specializing in the restoration of antique aircraft. Much of the craftsmanship that goes into the construction of fine cabinetry also goes into the restoration of vintage aircraft!
Today Premier enjoys a position of prestige in a highly demanding craft serving the ultra high-end cabinetry market whose clients expect the best in design, styling and execution. As capabilities in product design, engineering and manufacturing have matured over the years, the need to influence the design of the cabinetry and the furniture produced has created a unique and recognizable identity.
