premier custom-built, inc. and the environment

As an industry leader that relies on the use of natural resources, environmental stewardship is a fundamental principle in our value, vision and mission statements. We are determined to create products with a more ecologically and socially responsible future. Premier Custom-Built, Inc. is committed in the development of ways to create high end and totally custom products using sustainable manufacturing and business practices. Being an industry leader in design and manufacturing we recognize and accept our responsibility for environmental leadership and accountability.

Premier’s Environmental Plan starts with its industry certification through the KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association) Environmental Stewardship Certification Project. This program is modeled after the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Home Guidelines. This certification is awarded annually and is based on compliance in five independent categories. This certification is more extensive than other environmental programs in that it is not based only on raw material sourcing. It also set standards for products and their manufacturing process in regards to air quality and formaldehyde use.

In our solid lumber sourcing, we only partner with industry suppliers who support and maintain high environmental standards and certifications. All of our lumber suppliers promote and support both domestic and international Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) programs. These companies are actively involved in the public’s education regarding the value and use of our forest resources. They support the complete utilization of all harvested wood products and work to find effective ways to reduce waste and improve efficient use of our global forest resources.

Premier’s manufacturing process utilizes the most recent advancements in the formaldehyde free plywood, medium density fiberboard (MDF) and particleboard composite panels. These advanced products eliminate formaldehyde from both the panel press and product emissions, which make them compliant to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.

Premier’s coating and finishing operations use (VOC) and (HAP) compliant products that meet or exceed DEP and EPA regulations. Our extensive coatings program includes conversion varnish, acrylic urethane, polyester, rubbing oil and wax options. This flexibility allows Premier to match the coating type with the product’s intended use and customers’ needs. Premier is committed to continue its research and testing of water-based sealers and coatings to better meet the needs of (NAHB) Green Home Guidelines.

Recycling and reusing of manufacturing materials is a cultural trait at Premier. Innovations in manufacturing technology allow us to significantly reduce waste and increase conservation of materials. In addition to solid wood, composite material, corrugated cardboard, paper, aluminum, batteries, printer cartridges, monitors and office products are either reused for product repackaging or traditionally recycled.
